First tandem bike test ride

We waited for a dry day in the winter weather, which was a long wait in February on the north coast of Scotland. We kept it a short ride in the cold and rode slowly to not overload the components or frame. All the while I listened for sounds of anything breaking and regularly stopped to inspect the frame for any cracks. Everything seemed good. It was a relief that all the hours of work and learning had worked first time and we had a working frame, a working tandem, and overall, it looked good too.

Photo: We cycled a short hilly route around the local area, stopping at the shop for coffee. Sarah was very brave to join me for the test ride knowing that I had made the frame myself.

Photo: Home made carbon tandem ready for its first test ride! It had been a lot of hard work to make but great fun to learn new skills.
