Components for the tandem bike frame

I still didn’t know if the frame would ride ok so there was no point buying expensive components and wheels if it rode like a clown bike in the circus or snapped in the middle.

Mid-grade MTB wheels, a budget 1×11 drivetrain set up, mechanical brake shifters and callipers gave a good mix of function and style so bit by bit on my winter work vacation I built up the frame and it was ready for its maiden test ride.

It weighed just 28lb so with better wheels and components we should be around 25lb in the future. Our old steel tandem weighed 62lb and our aluminium frame MTB tandem weighed 42lb. It was so light I could lift it above my head and hold it there with one arm!
